To replace ChatGPT , Elon Musk lauches xAI, a new company in AI chatbot business

Elon Musk announces xAI, a fresh company that will fight its predecessors in the market, to shatter the monopoly in AI Neural language chatbot sector, which is largely held by Open AI's ChatGPT.

Elon Musk has announced the creation of what he is calling xAI, a project whose aim is to "understand the true nature of the universe." Musk has been hinting for months that he intends to create an alternative to the well-known ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot.

On Wednesday, xAI revealed that its team would be led by Musk and comprised of executives with experience working for a variety of cutting-edge AI firms, including Google's DeepMind, Microsoft Corp., Tesla Inc., as well as academic institutions like the University of Toronto.

OpenAI, the most well-known AI firm and developer of ChatGPT, was initially formed with Musk's assistance. But ever since he stepped off from the board in 2018, especially when it established a for-profit branch the following year, he has publicly criticised OpenAI repeatedly. He believes that it is "effectively controlled by Microsoft." To the amount of $13 billion, Microsoft has invested in OpenAI.

Musk has voiced strong doubts about artificial intelligence despite his expertise in the field. The billionaire joined a group of academics and titans of the IT sector who demanded that developers put a stop to the development of potent AI models in March. Jimmy Ba, a University of Toronto assistant professor who trained under AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton, and Christian Szegedy, a research scientist who spent years working on AI at Google, are two of the 12 persons (including Musk) featured on the website as of Wednesday morning. Although Musk regularly criticises San Francisco, the xAI website states that the business is "actively recruiting experienced engineers and researchers" to work "in the Bay Area." Silicon Valley has long been the centre of AI development.

According to a Nevada state filing with the Secretary of State, Musk and Jared Birchall, who manages Musk's family office, formed a company named X.AI in March.

According to unnamed persons familiar with the situation, the Financial Times reported in April that Musk was in talks with Tesla and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. investors about contributing to the funding of an AI business. According to the newspaper, the billionaire has purchased thousands of processors from Nvidia Corp. for the new project.

The Centre for AI Safety, an organisation that has cautioned about what it regards as existential hazards of creating AI swiftly, is reported to be advising the firm, according to the xAI website. Dan Hendricks is the head of the Centre for AI Safety. It published a letter of caution this spring that was signed by the CEOs of several of the top AI businesses, including DeepMind which is owned by Alphabet Inc and OpenAI.

In addition to Tesla, SpaceX, Twitter, Neuralink, the Boring Co., and now xAI, Musk, 52, is currently operating six businesses. In regulatory filings, Tesla claims that the automaker is "increasingly focused on products and services based on artificial intelligence, robotics, and automation." On its website, Tesla asks people to "build the future of artificial intelligence" by using a range of its products, including the "Tesla Bot" Optimus and AI interface chips that will power the automated driving software the electric manufacturer will develop.

As the borders of his ever-expanding empire blur, Musk has a long record of hiring engineers from one business to assist in another. As an example, employees from Tesla "volunteered" to work at Twitter when Musk acquired the company for $44 billion in October. Tesla and SpaceX also share a vice president of materials engineering.

According to the xAI website, it is a "separate company from X Corp," the holding company into which Musk merged with Twitter earlier this year, but it will "work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies."
