Treat Williams, a "Hair" and "Everwood" star, was killed in a motorbike accident at age 71.




It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Treat Williams, a beloved actor who starred in many films and television shows, including ‘Everwood,’ ‘Hair,’ and ‘Prince of the City.’ Williams died on Monday, June 12, 2023, at the age of 71, after being involved in a motorcycle accident near his home in Vermont.


Williams was born on December 1, 1951, in Rowayton, Connecticut. He began his acting career on stage, appearing in several Broadway productions, such as ‘Grease,’ ‘Over Here!,’ and ‘Once in a Lifetime.’ He made his film debut in 1976, playing a small role in ‘The Ritz.’ He rose to fame in 1979, when he starred as Berger, the charismatic leader of a group of hippies, in the film adaptation of the musical ‘Hair.’


Williams went on to star in many other films, such as ‘1941,’ ‘The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper,’ ‘The Late Shift,’ and ‘Deep Rising.’ He also received critical acclaim for his performances in ‘Prince of the City,’ a crime drama directed by Sidney Lumet, and ‘Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead,’ a neo-noir film co-starring Andy Garcia and Christopher Walken.


Williams was also a prolific television actor, appearing in many series and miniseries, such as ‘A Streetcar Named Desire,’ ‘The Substitute,’ ‘Heartland,’ and ‘Chesapeake Shores.’ He was best known for his role as Dr. Andrew Brown, a widowed neurosurgeon who moves his family to a small town in Colorado, in the family drama ‘Everwood.’ The show ran for four seasons from 2002 to 2006 and earned Williams two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.


Williams was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and often rode his Harley-Davidson in his spare time. He was also a licensed pilot and owned several planes. He was married to Pam Van Sant from 1988 to 2019 and had two children, Gillian and Elinor.


Williams was loved by many fans and colleagues for his talent, charm, and generosity. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
