Prior to performing 'Champagne Problems' on Saturday, June 17, at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field, Taylor Swift took a moment to reflect on earlier times. Swift remarked from the Eras Tour stage that "the weirdest, most magical thing is happening." In the whole time I've done this, it has never happened to me.

I just played a song called "Cruel Summer" to you. I'm not sure whether you can recall. Yes, it was a blast. She reminded audience members of the opening Lover portion of her live performance, "the one with the bridge where we all screamed."

"The Lover album contained the song "Cruel Summer." Four years ago, that record was released. And I just want to let you know something: Cruel Summer was my pride and pleasure on that album," she remarked of the song that appears on her 2019 album and has long been a fan favourite.

You have discussions before the record is out, according to Swift. Everyone nearby offers their opinion on who they believe should be singles. Finally, finally, my favourite song from the album Lover was ready to be released as a single.

However, COVID-19 arrived before the summer 2020, which would have been the ideal opportunity to release a resonant summer anthem. Swift stated that she was not attempting to place blame for the world pandemic that occurred, but that particular event prevented Cruel Summer from ever being a single.

No one knows how this is happening, but in 2023 you guys are streaming 'Cruel Summer' so much that Republic Records, her label, "just decided to make it the next single," she said.

"Thank you to anyone who's been listening to that song like 500 times a day," Swift jokingly said in Pittsburgh.
