For the Chicago region, wildfire smoke is affecting the air quality.

In Chicago and most of the Midwest, wildfire smoke from Canada has caused air quality to reach alarming levels.

Hazy weather, poor visibility, and a smokey smell are all effects of the smoke. Although there hasn't been a formal Air Quality Alert for the Chicago region yet, the present levels are hazardous for anyone who have respiratory problems.

Reduce your exposure to outside air, especially if you have heart or lung problems, are elderly, young, or a child. Keep outside activities brief and avoid intense activity.

Northwest Indiana, comprising the counties of Jasper, Lake, Newton, and Porter, has received air quality alerts.
