Laura Delava, 18 years old Belgian powerlifting champion, died in 24 hours after getting severe infection

 


Laura Delava, a powerlifting champion, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 18. Her family confirmed the devastating news, revealing that the adolescent athlete's passing occurred suddenly.

The teenage athlete from Huy, had only started powerlifting last summer, so in a manner, she was a late bloomer. But on September 24, three months later, at the BK in Lebbeke, she was able to declare herself the juniors under 69 kilogrammes Belgian champion. Seven months later, on April 24, her life was abruptly taken from her. She passed within 24 hours as a result of a serious illness.



Hopes were dashed on this Monday at 13:00 when the doctor arrived to inform Laura of her irreversible condition. A friend said on Instagram, "It is with a crushed heart that I announce the demise of our brightness Laura Delava. "Those who knew her will cherish her for her sense of humour, tenacity, willpower, and strength of character. She would have undoubtedly left us with beautiful memories. She has significantly altered my life, and I am thankful for her. All of us adore you, Laura."


Michel Bertrand, her coach, also comments on the news to Sudinfo: "This is so unexpected and sudden. Our sports club will be much missed by Laura. Nearby Seraing, where Laura studied in Liège, is where Bertrand's sports club is situated. Laura served as an inspiration for many young people, according to her coach. "Powerlifting is a relatively new sport, but since Laura joined our club, both boys and girls who are interested in the sport have been welcome here. We are all stunned by the passion she sparked.
