John Wick 4: Ian McShane's grandson tried to pitch a fifth movie to Keanu Reeves

The John Wick franchise is one of the most successful and beloved action series of the 21st century, thanks to its stylish visuals, thrilling fight scenes, and charismatic lead performance by Keanu Reeves. The fourth instalment, John Wick: Chapter 4, is set to hit theatres on March 24, 2023, and promises more adrenaline-fueled mayhem as the titular assassin takes on the High Table, a shadowy organization that rules over the underworld.

But while fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in John Wick's saga, one young fan already has an idea for a fifth movie. And he's not just any fan — he's Ian McShane's grandson.

Ian McShane plays Winston Scott, the manager of the Continental Hotel in New York City, a safe haven for assassins that offers them various services and amenities. Winston is a mentor and ally to John Wick throughout the series, although their relationship becomes complicated by Winston's loyalty to the High Table.

McShane recently revealed on Late Night with Seth Meyers that his youngest grandson attempted to pitch a fifth John Wick movie to Keanu Reeves at the London world premiere of Chapter 4 earlier this month. "I said, 'Well, give Keanu a chance to recover. I mean, he only kills 5,394 people in this movie. It's a big population to go through,'" McShane joked.

McShane did not disclose what his grandson's pitch was about, but he praised Reeves for being gracious and listening to him. He also expressed his admiration for Reeves' dedication and skill as an action star. "He does all his own stunts," McShane said. "He trains for six months before each film."

McShane also shared his enthusiasm for Chapter 4, which he described as "fantastic" after seeing it at the London premiere. He complimented director Chad Stahelski (who was Reeves' stunt double on The Matrix films) for creating a spectacular action spectacle that pays homage to other classic movies of the genre. He also welcomed some of the new cast members who joined the franchise for this instalment, such as Donnie Yen (Rogue One), Shamier Anderson (Wynonna Earp), and Bill SkarsgÄrd (It).

While there is no official confirmation of a fifth John Wick movie yet, it seems that McShane's grandson is not alone in wanting more adventures from the Baba Yaga. The franchise has spawned several spin-off projects in development, such as Ballerina (a female-led film starring Ana de Armas), The Continental (a prequel TV series about the hotel), and a video game titled John Wick Hex.

Whether or not we will see Winston return for another round with John Wick remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: Ian McShane has passed on his love for movies — and his sense of humour — to his grandson.
