Have you heard the good news that Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu will be joining the cast of the next superhero picture "Shazam! Fury of the Gods"? Mirren plays Hespera, the eldest daughter of Atlas, one of the ancient gods responsible for bestowing Shazam's powers, in "Shazam! Fury of the Gods." Her character is defined as a "mysterious villainess" bent on annihilating Shazam and his adoptive family. Meanwhile, Liu plays Atlas's middle daughter, Kalypso, who is depicted as even more cruel and cold-blooded than her sisters. They form a fearsome trio of wicked deities with their sister Anthea, played by Rachel Zegler. According to director David F. Sandberg, Mirren was drawn to the role because she loved the first "Shazam!" movie and wanted to play a character who was "above" superheroes. Mirren enjoyed working with Liu and Zegler, who are both newcomers to the superhero genre, and they had a lot of fun on set, especially when they had to wear elaborate costumes and do stunts. Liu, on the other hand, desired to play an adversary in order to explore her darker side and challenge herself as an actress. She also enjoyed working with Mirren and Zegler, whom she characterised as having wonderful chemistry and being supportive of one another. Yet what makes their roles even more crucial is that they are not simply deities, but also women of colour. Liu remarked that such diversity and inclusion in superhero films are uncommon, particularly for female characters, who are frequently marginalised or stereotyped. She hoped that their positions would inspire other women to pursue their aspirations and passions. "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" promises to be an epic adventure packed with humour, excitement, and feeling. Fans may anticipate seeing Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Grace Caroline Currey as Mary Bromfield, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, and Jovan Armand as Pedro Pea again.
